The T65, which has been two years in the
making, weighs 94g, has a form factor of 105 x 49 x 21 mm, and is marketed as a phone with
one-button access to the Internet. A more interesting feature of the T65 is Picture Caller
Line Identification (CLI)--which lets users assign different pictures to different
callers, similar to how current phones assign melodies.
There will be 76 preset pictures and 30
customizable pictures on the T65, which has a six-line display. The phone also comes with
point-to-point instant messaging capability, which simulates an Internet Relay Chat
interface. When a text message is received, a chat session opens up and old messages stay
within the display.
Ericsson aims to use this to turn text
messaging into a more intimate one-to-one experience, the company claimed. The T65 also
sports enhanced messaging system (EMS), a 1.2.1 WAP browser, dualband, and customizable
background pictures. Its General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) feature is capable of
supporting connection speeds of up 43.2kbps. Like the Ericsson T39, the T65 is expected to
offer 11 hours of talktime and 300 hours on standby.
