One of the major features of the Powershot G2 digital camera is the huge 4.1 Mega Pixel CCD which produces a screen sized resolution of 2272 x 1704. With this resolution, very large, photographic quality prints can be made at sizes up to10 x 14 inches and sections of images may be cropped and printed with excellent results, often not possible with other lower mega pixel cameras. The G2 is a camera that should be able to satisfy just about any kind of Photographer. For the beginner the fully automatic mode, will produce excellent images without any complicated operations. For the more experienced photographer, a wide range of manual control and creative modes are available, such as aperture priority and shutter priority modes, selectable point spot metering mode and 3 point auto focus with full manual focal control available. The G2 also retains the handy swivel LCD display for previewing and reviewing images and a hotshoe flash connection to ensure compatability with external flash units such as the Canon Speedlight range of external flashes. Another great feature of the G2 is the remote control unit that ships with the camera. Olympus have been supplying a remote control unit with their top end digital cameras for years. It is great to see Canon include a remote control device with the G2, as it is one of those small features that you may make you wonder how you would live without once you have it. As you would expect from a high end camera like this, and like the older G1, the G2 has a high quality 3X zoom lens with macro function. The focal length of the lens is 34 - 102mm (35mm equiv.) The macro function has a minimal focal distance of just 2.4 Inch (6cm). Compared to other 4 Mega Pixel cameras, the lens zoom range is pretty much standard, while the macro focal range, while been very good, is not as good as the Nikon Coolpix 990, 995 lens which has a minimal focal distance of just 0.8 Inch (2cm), but still better the Olympus C 4040's 8inch (20cm) minimal focal distance. A compact flash Type II memory card is included with the camera, which has a reasonable 16 Megabyte storage capacity. The 4.1 Mega Pixel images that are created with this camera are likely to have very large file sizes, especially when recorded in the G2's high quality, uncompressed format (RAW) at full resolution.
